It’s September… Meaning your fashion hearts starts beating faster. A new fashion season is coming! Which colors will your closet embrace this fall/winter? What fabrics are hot? Which styles should you wear, and what are the to-die-for must-haves? Read all about it in this trend report for autumn/winter 2013-2014!
Burgundy – This gorgeous color makes you appear feminine, warm and mysterious. Who doesn’t want that this fall? Make it look sexy by matching it with a leopard print.
Shades of grey – May sound a bit boring, but wear nicely cut items and quality items in different shades of grey, and you’ll give it a whole different meaning.
Navy & cobalt blue– Intense, classic, and simply beautiful, these shades of blue are being called the new black this season. These bold, almost paint box bright tones of blue appear to be this winter’s statement colors. Bringing different shades of dark blue together in one outfit makes them stand out even more.
Metallic – Get ready to steal the show. Runways were filled with eye-catching metallic finishes. So shine on! You can add as much metallic to your look as you want. A completely metallic outfit will definitely turn heads. Or go with just metallic pants, and style with a nicely cut top or blouse. Try not to show to much skin, keep your look simple and stylish.
Scottish tartan – From red checks, to green, blue and black plaid, this season it’s all about the Scottish tartan according to Moschino. Interpreted in a very modern way. Wear a complete outfit in tartan, or spice it up with animal prints. Black leather loves tartan too.
Colored fur – One of this seasons must-haves would be the colorful fur coat. Think vibrant colors, like the coats Danie Bles, Blumarine, and Tom Ford showed in their fashion shows. Or get inspired by Anna Dello Russo, in her bright yellow coat. Not a fan of fur? Think again! There are loads of eco friendly alternatives of fake fur, that are more beautiful than ever.
Softness – This season it is all about soft colors and fabrics. Think soft Ecru, cognac, off-white, powder pink & peach for colors, and pick soft touchable fabrics. My favorite designer brands, Céline, Isabel Marant and Blumarine really inspired this trend. To make a soft appearance, wear your whole outfit in soft shades that vary in nuance. Wear with accessories in the same soft shades, like copper.
Snow white – In line with the previous trend, comes the Snow White trend. Wearing an head-to-toe white outfit never looked so chic. Pair soft fabrics with crispy whites.
Army chic – Military colors and camouflage prints are making a real modern comeback this season. These army pieces are being mixed with feminine silhouettes this season, making the trend more luxurious. Think peplum, black fur & leather, and other luxury materials. This trend is made for strong and powerful women.
90s girl – From the runways a clear 90s vibe was given, as seen on DKNY, Rodarte, and BCBG Max Azria. Nostalgic was key in many looks, like those with beanies finishing every look, dresses over pants, and the many backpacks that now really make a comeback.
Luxury details – This fall you can really get into detail with your look. Crystals, fur, feathers, rhinestones, think luxury details and wear pieces with these details not when going out, but in daylight too.
Romance – The romantic look of this spring and summer, stays this a/w, it only turns a shade darker. This elegance look is both feminine and appealing. Darker flower prints, lace, it’s here to stay.
Menswear – Join the boys club, and wear sexy menswear, such as a pant with a blazer, shirt, and tie. Chalk stripes really fit the trend too. Stella McCartney, Michael Kors, and Trussardi offer great inspiration. Also try to wear very manly items and very feminine pieces in one look, like sparkling shoes with flannel pants and a cable pullover. Or wear a powerful skirted suit.
For every trend this season goes that mixing different textures and structures is hot. This excellence attention to detail really pays off in a better outfit. Think leather with flannel, mohair with silk, and so on. So better keep this in mind when shopping your autumn/winter 2013/2014 wardrobe. Good luck, and have fun this season!
